With heavy hearts we announce that the Matriarch of our family, Dorothy Chaffin Howell passed away peacefully with her daughter, Joyce Howell Litton by her side, on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
She was born in Stepptown, WV on June 28, 1930 to the late Christopher Columbus Chaffin and Delilah Hammond Chaffin. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her 9 siblings: Millard, Mabel, John, Harlen, David, Lafe, Florence, Daisy, and Dillard. Dorothy is survived by her 2 children, Joyce (Johnny) Litton and Ronnie (Melody) Howell both of Stepptown, WV, three grandchildren, John (Norma) Litton, Jason (Barbara) Litton, Travis Howell, seven great grandchildren, Lexie Howell, Sydney Litton, Jacob Litton, Matthew Litton, Jessica Litton, Haylen Howell, Julianna Howell, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Dorothy owned and operated Dorothy’s Drive Inn for more than 60 years where she loved serving her customers and considered them her extended family. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. If Dorothy was not spending time with her family, she was either in the kitchen or hanging out with her customers.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her wonderful friend and caregiver, Virginia Parsley and the nurses and caregivers at the Martin County Health Care Facility.
Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 12:00pm at the Riverview Memorial Gardens, Louisa, KY with Joe Mullins officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30am til 12:00pm at the cemetery. Burial will follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make donations to the Salvation Army in Dorothy’s name and honor. In response to the covid-19 virus, all attendees are required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. Mullins Family Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be serving the family of Dorothy Chaffin Howell.
