Obituary for Wayman Cheung

Wayman Cheung, 47, of Kermit, WV passed away unexpectedly in his home on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Wayman was born in Manhattan, New York on March 5, 1973, to James and Lena Cheung.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jam Mui Luk, Sang Cheung, Po Yin Ng, and Nui Shee Lee; his aunt, Mo ChingHom, his uncle, King Shek Hom; and his in-laws Hershel and Elizabeth Sartin. He is survived by his parents; James and Lena Cheung of Monterey Park, CA; his wife, Jenta Cheung of Kermit, WV; his children, Olivia (Jennings) Copley of Cynthiana, KY, and Mia Cheung of Kermit, WV. He also left behind his brother, Kendrick Cheung of Rosemead, CA, his sister, Frances (Ohad) Brzakay of Los Angeles, CA, his precious grandson, Baylor Copley of Cynthiana, KY, a host of nephews, and a large extended family and friends that will miss him terribly.
Wayman was a devoted son, loving husband, patient father, spoiling grandfather, and a friend to all. He pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a teacher and was a graduate of Marshall University. He enjoyed teaching the students of Wayne and Mingo counties where he strived to leave a lasting impression on each of them.
Wayman grew up in Los Angeles, CA, but when asked what brought him to Kermit, WV, he would always answer, "the love of a good woman". When he married Jenta on September 1, 2007, he gained his oldest daughter, Olivia Copley. Later, on February 2, 2010, he welcomed his "baby girl", Mia, who was the light of his life.
Wayman was a gentle soul who found pleasure in the simple things in life. He enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, playing games, and always appreciated a good meal. He often talked about his childhood; treasured taking trips back home to California and was proud of his Chinese heritage. The central focus of his life was his daughter, Mia. He loved to watch her excel in her many endeavors and was always her biggest cheerleader. He came to West Virginia as a stranger but is leaving as a cherished friend. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure to know him.
Memorial services will be conducted at the Lighthouse Community Church, East Kermit, WV on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. Visitation for the immediate family will begin at 2:00 pm and will open to extended family and friends at 5:00 pm. The funeral will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, with Keith Brumfield and Jerry Newsome officiating. Due to Covid-19, masks and social distancing are required for all who attend. Mullins Family Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be serving the family of Wayman Cheung.
