Obituary for John P. Fleming

After a hard-fought battle, John P. Fleming of Wilsondale, WV passed away on November 11, 2020 at the age of 77, while in the care of St. Mary’s Medical Center. He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia Fleming, his daughter, Debbie Deskins, grandchildren, Tyler Deskins and Shae (Dustin) Maynard, and his great granddaughters, Ella K. and Kaydence Maynard.
John P. was born on July 3rd, 1943 in Wilsondale, WV; to the late Goodlow Fleming and Lora Evans-Fleming. He grew up in a large loving family with 7 sisters and 3 brothers. He was a graduate of Lenore High School. John P. served with honor in the United States Army, 101ST Airborne Division, before returning to Southern West Virginia to work in the coal industry.
John P. married Patricia May on October 26, 1963. They lived in Chicago for several years before settling in Wilsondale, WV. There John P. and Patricia raised their daughter. John P. was a devoted family man. For many years, he was a dedicated section foreman at Pittston Coal Company and shift foreman at Marrowbone Development. He was a Master Mason of the Jewel Lodge No. 140, of Crum, WV, and enjoyed his time at his lodge immensely. He was an optimistic, caring and loving man.
John P. is also survived by his sisters, Betty June Shrader, Debbie (Bob) Fleming, Mary Jane Davis, Berta Gail (Bob) Browning, and Judy (Rick) Maynard. He is additionally survived by a host of nieces and nephews who he loved as his own. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his mother in law Effie May, his siblings, Sherman Franklin Fleming, Ray Fleming, Faye (Fred) Tatro, Benny Fleming, Fannie Belle Fleming, and brother-in-law, Donnie Davis.
John P. requested to be cremated. Services will be held at Trace Church of God in Dingess, WV on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 12:00pm til 4pm with Robbie May officiating. A graveside service will be held at a later date. In response to the COVID-19 virus all attendees are required to wear a face covering and practice social distancing guidelines.
