Obituary for Dana Hannah

Dana Hannah went home to be with his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, on December 22, 2020. He passed peacefully at his residence in Fort Gay, WV, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Daniel and Elizabeth Marcum Meade, and Isaac Harmon Jr. and Rose Dillon Hannah; parents, Hayden and Alberta Meade Hannah; father in law, Bryant Spaulding and mother in law, Jennetta Parsley Spaulding; son Gartha Hannah; and sister Wannetta Rose Hannah Marcum.
Dana was the first born son of the late Hayden and Alberta Meade Hannah. He was born on March 1, 1937 in Kirk, W. Va. As Dana grew as a child he was helped raised by many dear loved ones. He so often spoke of the impact his special aunts, uncles, cousins, and the men and women of the community had on his life throughout the years. Those included Uncle Joe and Aunt Mandy Sturgill Hannah, Aunt Mary Hannah May, Aunt Wilda May Dillon, Aunt Alice Dillon, Causby May Stanley, Garlene Kirk May, Aunt Rhoda Messer Dillon, Aunt Fay Meade Marcum, Uncle Virgil Marcum, old man Dee Marcum along with so many more. As you see, it really did take a village to raise this rambunctious feisty boy.
He would go on to repay this love by taking care of the elderly in his community and family during their time of need. His special time and care for his grandmother “Big Mom” Elizabeth Marcum Meade Hale Dillon, and his grandfather-in-law, James Ira Spaulding were some of the most cherished memories of his life.
Dana was blessed with seven siblings who he loved so dearly. One sister, Wannetta Rose (Reather) Marcum and six brothers, Alton Ray (Linda) Hannah, Virgil Hayden Jr (Lynn) Hannah, Larry (Enedina) Hannah, Dallas (Kay) Hannah, Everette (Diann) Hannah, and Lonnie (Darlene) Hannah. The love that Dana had for his siblings was immeasurable and everlasting.
Dana married the love of his life, Tennessee Spaulding, on April 23, 1955. He was blessed to gain four sisters Effie (Herb) Meade, Nora (Ray) Meade, Juanita (Oakey) Harrison, and Connie (David) May and two brothers Elbert (Mary) Spaulding, Rayburn (Joyce) Spaulding. Through their union of 65 years they were blessed with five daughters, Iva (Grady) Romans, Wanda (Chester) Waugh, Elaine (David) Stiltner, Juanita (John Wayne) White, Ruby (John David) Stevens, and two sons Gartha Hannah, and John Daniel (Debbie) Hannah.
Dana and Tennessee were blessed with 19 grandchildren, Felicia (John) Williams, Shannon (Elizabeth) Romans, Luther (Tracy) Waugh, Elana Fay (Paul) Webb, Brandon (Marsha) Stiltner, Kevin Stiltner, Andy Hannah, Jonathon Hannah, Christopher Hannah, Donnie Hannah, Samantha (Chad) Nichols, Johnny Ray White, Joshua White, Gregory White, April White, Jamie White, Robert Hayden White, Sarah Stevens, and Elijah Stevens, 24 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.
Dana was a member of River Bend FWB Church of Crum, W.Va. He accepted the Lord on April 17, 1979 at a revival at Neely Branch Church. Eddie Layne and Jimmy Maynard were preaching the night he and Tennessee accepted the Lord and was buried in water baptism into a newness of life. He has walked this highway for over 40 years, striving daily to make Heaven his eternal home. He leaves behind a loving church family. The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice Care of Huntington for the long term care that they provided for Dana and his family.
We celebrate the long and full life that Dana was blessed with. His love and memory will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, family, and friends for many generations to come. He will be greatly missed, but we are thankful for the promise that we will one day meet again.
Public visitation will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 from 11:00am until 12:00pm with a private, family only funeral conducted at 12:30pm at the Riverbend Freewill Baptist Church with Jeremy Watts, Greenway Parsley, and Josh Vance officiating. Burial will follow in the Hannah Cemetery of Marrowbone, WV with Elder John Wayne White and Ellis Vance .
